ProQuest Historical Black Newspapers trial includes:

Atlanta Daily World (1931-2003): The Atlanta Daily World had the first black White House correspondent and was the first black daily in the nation in the 20th century.

Los Angeles Sentinel (1946-2005): The oldest and largest black newspaper in the western United States and the largest African-American owned newspaper in the U.S.

New York Amsterdam News (1922-1993): This leading Black newspaper of the 20th century reached its peak in the 1940s. The Amsterdam News was a strong advocate for the desegregation of the U.S. military during World War II, and also covered the historically important Harlem Renaissance.

Pittsburgh Courier (1911-2002): One of the most nationally circulated Black newspapers, the Courier reached its peak in the 1930s. A conservative voice in the African-American community, the Courier challenged the misrepresentation of African-Americans in the national media and advocated social reforms to advance the cause of civil rights.

British Periodicals traces the development and growth of the periodical press in Britain from its origins in the seventeenth century through to the Victorian 'age of periodicals' and beyond. On completion this unique digital archive will consist of almost 500 periodical runs published from the 1680s to the 1930s, comprising six million keyword-searchable pages and forming an unrivalled record of more than two centuries of British history and culture.

British Periodicals provides access to the searchable full text of hundreds of periodicals from the late seventeenth century to the early twentieth, comprising millions of high-resolution facsimile page images.

Library Biblio Gallery features new student art

Syracuse University Library’s Biblio Gallery on the 4th floor of Bird Library is now featuring artwork by Joshua Kaplan, a painting major in the School of Art and Design. The show will run through November 2, 2007.
