peggySU Library Sadly Bids Farewell to Peggy Palerino

It is with very mixed feelings of happiness for her and sadness for us that we celebrated Peggy Palerino's retirement after 19 years of service to Syracuse University Bird Library on October 30th.

We wish her all the best in her retirement and we'll miss her.

logoSU Library Gives Back to the United Way

The SUL United Way team’s Annual United Way Auction and White Elephant Sale was another success this year. Hosted November 13 and 14th in the Peter Graham Scholarly Commons, the team consisting of Sue Ehlers, Ann Horan, Pat Hunt, and Dorcas MacDonald presented the DISC “Go Green” group with ceramic soup bowls from David MacDonald as their prize for having the most popular basket.

In all the SUL team raised $588.00 for the United Way thanks to generous support and donations from the library staff.

Mary O'Brien Recieves Red Cross Award

We wish to offer congratulations to Mary O'Brien from Archives and her twin sister Margaret who on Wednesday, December 3rd were honored with the Red Cross Blood Donor Award at the 10th Annual American Red Cross Real Heroes Breakfast held at the Oncenter Convention Center Complex. Together they have donated 328 units of blood over 35 years. That's 21 gallons for Margaret and 20 for Mary. Keep up the good work ladies!

Syracuse University Archivist Edward Galvin, Montauk artist Suse Lowenstein Honored for their Work in Advancing the Legacy of Pan Am Flight 103

Edward L. Galvin, Syracuse University archivist, and Suse Lowenstein of Montauk, N.Y., mother of Pan Am 103 SU student victim Alexander Lowenstein and creator of the Dark Elegy sculpture collection, are the 2008 recipients of the Keeping the Spirit Alive Award from the Victims of Pan Am Flight 103 (VPAF 103).

SU Library Adds 350 Sage Titles to E-Journal Collection

Effective Jan. 1, 2009, the Syracuse University Library will add nearly 350 online journals to its already extensive holdings. The journals, which span numerous disciplines, are all published by Sage Publications, a respected publisher of academic titles.

With sadness we bid farewell to two of our temporary staff Chris Ely and Weston Czerkies, both of whom worked in the Cataloging division under Yumiko Saito.

There have been some recent rearranging of Learning Commons staff offices. Lesley Pease has moved from the third floor into 100D. Brandi Porter is next door in 100C, and Donna Sullivan is in room 100E.

Phone numbers however remain the same.
