Library Lock-In: "It Was a Dark & Brainy Night at Bird Library"

The Office of Residence Life and Syracuse University Library are pleased to host the first “Library Lock-In: It Was a Dark & Brainy Night at Bird Library.” This event, scheduled for Friday March 3 from 10pm until 2am, will give 100 Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF undergraduate residential students the opportunity to enter Bird Library after hours and compete in teams of two by searching the library for answers to challenging questions.  The event is designed to serve a variety of purposes, including:

• Exposing students to the breadth of materials available at the library;
• Fostering a positive relationship between students and the library staff and facilities; and,
• Providing a fun, educational and safe activity for the students on a weekend night.

“This event provides an opportunity for students to learn about library resources in a fun and exciting way.  Anticipation for the first Library Lock-In is high and we hope this will become an annual event,” Terra Peckskamp, the director of learning communities for student affairs and associate director of residence life, said.  Registration forms are available at all residence hall main desks, and students should return their completed registration forms to the Office of Residence Life, 111 Waverly Ave., Suite 200.  There is a $5 registration fee, and all participants will receive a classy “Library Lock-In” t-shirt.  Participation is limited to 100 students.

At the end of the evening, after all scores have been totaled, the major prizes will be awarded.  These prizes are:

• Grand Prize: Textbooks for Fall Semester – Each participant on the winning team will receive a $400 gift card to the SU Bookstore.
• Second Prize: Go Back to School in Style - Each participant on the winning team will receive a $200 gift card to the Carousel Mall.
• Third Prize: Coffee for a Week - Each participant on the winning team will receive a $50 gift card to Starbuck’s.

Door prizes will be given away throughout the evening.  Door prizes include:
