LISD Will Rollout Another Microsoft Patch

Microsoft has released another critical security patch. This patch closes a security hole that could be exploited by a worm similar to the blaster worm that hit campus last Summer. To close the hole, LISD will be rolling out the Microsoft patch beginning at 8:30 am on Tuesday, Feb. 17th.

During the patch rollout, you may see a dialog box that shows files being copied. Please do not cancel the operation -- these files need to be copied to complete the patch installation. When the installation is completed, you will receive a message that tells you the patch installed successfully. Your PC will reboot automatically once you click on OK.If you receive an error message, please contact LISD at x4300 or LISD@syr.edu.

We also encourage everyone to patch any of their home computers that are running Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP (and are used on the Internet) with the lastest critical security patches . Hackers have already developed exploits for some of these holes. For more information on the patches, you can visit Microsoft's web site at http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/20040210_windows.asp
