Have a look at some photos from the Reunion 2004 Library Expo, held on Saturday, June 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the space outside the 1916 Room. (More images can be found at http://photo.syr.edu; numbers from DSC_0615 to 0633 were taken in the Library.) Out of about 1,000 alumni celebrating reunions, 50 or 60, most from the Class of 1954, came to participate in the following events:
- Tour of E.S. Bird Library by Denise Stephens,
- Book talk, "Postmonitions of a Peripatetic Professor," by Peter I. Rose '54
- Tour of the Special Collections Research Center, by Christian Dupont
- Demonstrations and displays:
- Special Collections Research Center
- Media Services Department
- Fine Arts Department
- Belfer Audio Laboratory and Archive
- University Archives
- Maps and Government Information Department
- Reference Department
- Science Libraries
- Complimentary bookplates
- New York Times cover pages for the day of graduation (and the local paper's coverage of it the following day)
- Digital portraits
Media Services reports that 48 alumni asked for the newspaper stories, and 33 asked for digital photos. There were 21 people at the book talk, and 20 people requested complimentary bookplates. Christian talked with a prominent alumna who may donate a portion of her professional papers to SCRC. Elaine Cardone, associate director of Alumni Relations, says that one man was so impressed with the Library that he intends to make a gift. Elaine reminds us that the hard work involved in such events does pay off-sometimes in unexpected ways. Thanks again to the 30 or so people who made our latest expo a success!
