GroupWise will be unavailable Friday evening and Saturday

GroupWise desktop services and GroupWise Web Access will be unavailable from 5 p.m. Friday, July 30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 31, while the system is upgraded to GroupWise 6.5. All e-mail that is sent to faculty and staff GroupWise accounts will be stored and delivered after the outage. GroupWise clients in University College and the College of Law will not be affected by the outage and will be able to continue to use their GroupWise mail system.

Faculty and staff who use GroupWise (except those in University College and the College of Law) should shutdown their computer before going home on Friday, July 30. When logging into GroupWise on Monday, Aug. 2, you will be prompted to upgrade your desktop GroupWise client. Clicking "no" will delay the upgrade. The upgrade will be automatic after a pre-set number of delays noted on the pop up box.

Because of a change in the way the "sent" folder works in GroupWise 6.5, clients who choose not to upgrade on the first prompt will not be able to access their old "sent" mail folder or their "task" list until they upgrade their desktop client.

GroupWise 6.5 demonstration classes are available through August 5. Registration information is on the Web at http://cms.syr.edu/training/workshops/staff.html . In addition, a "GroupWise 6.5 Preview" Power Point presentation is available on the Web at http://cms.syr.edu/email/groupwise

SULinks Live! on August 3

Join the SULinks implementation teams on Tuesday, August 3 from 9 am to 11 am in the Hillyer Room as we celebrate and update staff on SULinks, our OpenURL server.

Over the summer, SULinks has grown from a few "enabled" index and abstract source databases to 77, in all subject areas and from many vendors. Over 7,000 of our online journals now link out from these databases, serving as full text "targets". In addition, thousands of titles are linked to full text article databases like ProQuest and EbscoMasterfile.

This session will provide an opportunity for the Implementation Team and the Public Services Team to demonstrate how the SULinks service works, listen to your input and answer questions.

GroupWise Upgrade July 30-31

Computing and Media Services (CMS) is upgrading the GroupWise e-mail package to GroupWise 6.5. To accomplish the task, GroupWise desktop services and GroupWise Web access will be unavailable from 5 p.m. Friday, July 30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 31. All e-mail that is sent to faculty and staff GroupWise accounts will be stored and delivered after the outage. Specific directions about how to upgrade the GroupWise interface on individual desktop computers will be forthcoming.

While GroupWise 6.5 may look and feel a bit different, it functions very much the same as the GroupWise client currently in use. Faculty and staff should have no difficulty using the upgraded version as soon as it is installed on their desktops. However, GroupWise 6.5 has some new, exciting features that enhance the organization of e-mail messages. Demonstrations of the enhanced features will be presented beginning the week of July 19. A schedule of classes and registration information will be available on the CMS Training Web site the week of July 12.

Further news and information about the upgrade will be sent via e-mail throughout the month of July and will be available on the CMS Web site at http://cms.syr.edu.
