Europa World Upgrade Launches Thursday

The first major upgrade of EUROPA WORLD launches tomorrow, on Thursday, October 28!

In response to user feedback, the EUROPA WORLD Home Page has been considerably streamlined, and now provides a more intuitive interface that makes it friendlier for both new users and veterans of the print Year Book. Please note that all of the original features remain, but the Home Page of the site has been upgraded to enable faster access and greater usability.

Specific Changes to Europa World include:
- The new Home Page offers a simpler selection of access points for country data, now consisting of:

a) The purple navigation bar displaying links to Home /Advanced Search /Countries /Organizations/ Help

b) Full-text basic Search box at upper right of screen

c) Country drop-down menu at upper right

d) Links to data that are not part of the country-specific entries--Comparative International Statistics and International Organizations (located at the left-hand side of screen)

e) An easy link to your Europa World customer support team, including the teams for North/South American subscribers, and UK/Rest of World

Where are the Directory and other data links now located?
a) Within the specific Country entries

b) Via the Advanced Search page, users can search or cross-search Directory listings and other data for any selection of countries or regions.

Network outage starting at 10:00 pm Wednesday, October 27

LISD will be upgrading our network servers between Wednesday, October 27 at 10:00 pm and Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 am. All network services (workstation login, files, and printing) will be unavailable during this time. In preparation we ask that all staff computers be logged off during this time. This outage will not affect public machines.

All staff members that must use computers during this time, please complete the following procedure prior to 9:45 pm, Wednesday evening:
Reboot the machine you are using.
At the Novell login screen, check "workstation only" and continue as usual.
The usual desktop will appear.

In this mode you will be able to browse the Internet with IE only, Network drives (f:\, g:\, h:\...) will be unavailable, and printing will not function. Voyager will be fully functional as well as Groupwise.

The change will be transparent to staff and our patrons. All data and services will be migrated to the new system.

On October 25 and 26 SU Library will host more than 100 librarians for the 2004 Endeavor Mid-Atlantic (EMA) Users Group Meeting.

The EMA group comprises institutions from New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New York who use Endeavor Information Systems products such as Voyager (upon which SU Library’s SUMMIT Catalog is based). Among the universities sending library representatives to the meeting are Cornell, Hamilton, Penn, Princeton, Rochester, Skidmore, and Yale.

Meeting sessions will take place in E.S. Bird Library and the Schine Student Center. Many of these sessions will focus on using the technology to improve services for users. The complete program is available on the EMA web site: emausers.org/schedule.html.
